X-Men Origins: Wolverine Review

wolverine_movie_reviewThe moment is finally here. The new Wolverine movie is out and there have been mixed reviews about this movie.

X-Men Origins Wolverine features Hugh Jackman, Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston, Lynn Collins and is directed by Gavin Hood of Rendition and Tsotsi fame. With the word Origins in the title, it would seem like this is the first of an endless stream of X-Men movies explaining the origins of other characters and we hope they get to Magneto soon.

The movie is not as good as the original X-Men movies but there is a lot in this movie for people who just look for special effects and crazy action sequences. Its great to see Hugh Jackman back as Wolverine but seeing Liev Schreiber as Sabretooth hurts. As good as an actor he may be, Liev is not convincing as Sabretooth. Another weak point in this movie and it may be obvious to some, is the inexperience of Gavin Hoob and big budget blockbusters.

For all you online poker fans out there, Daniel Negreanu, shows up in a scene with Wolverine and Gambit playing Texas Hold ‘Em and is one of the talked about cameos of the movie. Daniel Negrean has won four World Series of Poker bracelets and two World Poker Tour Championship titles.

Hulk Vs: Animated Feature DVD Release

Hulk Vs Dvd PreviewWhile animation is usually not my bag, I have had the opportunity as of late to view a variety of clips from this upcoming release, featuring Hulk vs Wolverine and Hulk vs Thor.

I remember the Marvel Hulk comics from my childhood, and vaguely even a tv show… this provides me with at the very least a jumping off point when considering what type of story to expect. It would seem from the clips that it does follow the typical storyline for this particular genre, the difference that I see with my keen joe public eye, is in the animation.

Cartoons have not been the same since the late ’80s, early ’90s maybe… this dvd seems to capture that truly Saturday morning cartoon feel. No, not like the Flintstones or the Gummi Bears, think more Transformers and GI Joe… but with more finese. These clips made me want to grab a box of Cap’n Crunch/Count Chockula/FrootLoops and get ready for a morning of classics!

The Special Features section looks like it would really appeal to all of you Marvel die hards.

Look for the release of the Hulk Vs DVD on January 27, 2009.

WolverineCheck out the trailer for the new X-Men Origins: Wolverine movie here. Let us know what you think. That has to be some serious CGI in my opinion, no offense to Hugh Jackman, but there’s no way those are his arms!

Wolverine to Host 81st Academy Awards

Hugh JackmanHugh Jackman, best known for his work as Wolverine in the X-Men series, is slated to host the Oscars this year. This is indeed an interesting departure from recent years, where the event has been commonly hosted by well known comedians; Jon Stewart, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, Chris Rock, Ellen Degeneres, and Steve Martin. Perhaps the telecast producers, Bill Condon and Laurence Mark are hoping to steer away from the chuckles and laughs and add a little more elegance and sexiness to the event.

I`m looking forward to seeing if Jackman comes onto the stage even once with his trademark claws displayed.
