Vantage Point: Movie Review

What a cool concept, one event from many different points of view. What that means as well though, is that you must pay close attention to this movie to know what the hell is going on at any given time. Not the type of storyline to try and follow if you’re tired, or distracted by kids, noisy partners, or irritating siblings.
The premise is a terrorist act against the President of the United States (POTUS) while abroad. I enjoyed the story, once I started paying attention to it and realized every 10 minutes or so that I was seeing the same scene over and over again but with different perspectives and hints as to the perpretrators.
I recall mentioning to the Reel Ninja that I am not always a fan of Forrest Whitaker, but in Vantage Point I enjoyed his character and his acting in general. Dennis Quaid is also not a favourite of mine, with a bit of a lack luster performance here as well, but not a complete wash out. Matthew Fox, being the huge LOST fan that I am, is difficult for me to see as anything other than Dr Jack Sheppard, but he did well in this unexpect role. It’s no fault of Fox, I had trouble with him as Jack in the beginning too, thanks to his Party of Five character Charlie Salinger.
I give this movie 6.5 ‘secret service agents’ out of 10.
LOST: Who Is Daniel Faraday?

Last night’s episode certainly had a Daniel focus. Where were Jack and Kate we wondered, as each segment came back around to Daniel.
The creators had indicated that last season and this season we would begin to see answers to the many, many questions this series has presented. Based on last night’s episode, it would seem that Daniel Faraday is as important to the reality that is LOST, as are Benjamin Linus and John Locke.
The introduction of the H bomb was an uninteresting turn of events for this viewer, as was the US military who supposedly brought it. However, the recognition of Charles Widmore as a young man certainly caught more than a fleeting glance.
I wonder though, will they ever explain the giant 4 toed foot? How any shipments get in and out of this unfindable island? Who Jacob is? And why the hell dead people there interact with the living? Ah, all in good time I’m afraid. One slow week at a time. Pity, I could get hit by a bus before I learn the mysteries of the island.
Update: Could Charlotte be Daniel’s daughter? Perhaps with Theresa?
LOST – With Nothing To Watch

Is it me? Did I imagine the LOST creators telling us that as a result of there not being a Fall ’07 season, there would be an uninterrupted Winter/Spring ’08 season with 18 episodes. Yeah, yeah… there was a writers strike. So what?! I can’t tell you how long the Fall was without LOST every week, and now when Thursday rolls around, it’s just another day.Television has gotten incredibly boring in the past year, lack luster and more of the same old, same old. Cashmere Mafia and Lipstick Jungle… give me a break. I can’t even bring myself to turn those shows on, they just reek of cheese – Whisteria Lane Goes To The Office. Don’t get me wrong, Desperate Housewives had a strong first season, and drew in a large following of 30-40 somethings – but it started going downhill in the second season when they obviously ran out of original content.
April 24th… that’s the return of new episodes. Till then I guess we’ll be saving on our electric bill by keeping the t.v. in hiatus mode… just when I thought we were through with the crap from the Fall.
