Mighty B: We Got The Bee DVD Review

Nickelodeon at it’s best.
What I love about cartoons these days is that clearly some of them are driven at the adult crowd. With the humour and appeal that we should have outgrown, but can’t seem to live without. With that being said, this movie is targeted for kids, but can be watched by most adults born after 1970 without it being painful.
The dvd includes a collection of 8 episodes highlighting the adorable Bessie Higgenbottom (voice of Amy Pohler) in her crusade to become the top bee in Honeybee Troop #828. Bessie is the culmination of every geeky kid you ever met, and you just can’t help but want to … I don’t want to completely ruin it for you. As an adult you’ll inevitably have vast selection of words to best fill that spot.
Episodes:
- We Got the Bee
o When Portia’s band doesn’t let Bessie join, Bessie starts rockin’ to her own beat!
- So Happy Together
o To enter the Honeybee Dog Show and earn the Animal Appreciation badge, Bessie sets out to find a stray.
- Sweet Sixteenth
o Just the teensiest bit under minimum height to ride The Punisher, Bessie goes to extremes to measure up.
- Bee My Baby
o To dupe Bessie into babysitting, Portia and Gwen tell her about the non-existent Baby Wrangling Badge.
- Bee Afraid
o In her quest for the Happy Camper Badge, Bessie goes, well, you know. But it’s scary in the dark. Especially with Portia and Gwen around.
- Artificial Unintelligence
o Will Bessie’s entry in the science fair finally win her the Mad Scientist Badge? Or just make other people mad?
- Bat Mitzvah Crashers
o Bessie and Penny love crashing Bat Mitzvahs, then vow to stop when the partying takes a toll. But can they resist crashing “the Bat Mitzvah of the century?”
- Super Secret Weakness
o The Mighty B is sure to find herself in quite a pickle if Bessie doesn’t help her ‘squash’ her only weakness.
The humour in this dvd is a pinch Mean Girls with a dash of gross out humour, definitely enjoyable. I suggest that it’s something that it’s important to have an adult around while the kids are watching it, just to reinforce the good behaviour verses the bad behaviour.
I give this movie 6 ‘badges‘ out 10. See it this weekend with a 7 year old you love!

“Snow White Another Bite @ the Apple”
Very Shrek-like, with a little less in your face comedy. This dvd is due to release on March 24th, 2009.
This movie was a funny interpretation of the fairytale world with an emphasis on the necessity of balance between good and evil. The main character Snow White is a teenaged Lindsay Lohan-Paris Hilton-Britney Spears kind of girl with little interest in anything beyond being hip, being noticed and hanging out with gal pals, Little Bo Peep, Red Riding Hood, and Goldi Locks. After a terrible trick is played with Snow left holding the bag, she runs off and learns what it really means to be loved and adored by the people she encounters, as opposed to the friend-of-the-week people with which she had previously surrounded herself. After learning the error of her ways, she returns to her kingdom to live a life, happily ever after.
The comedic stylings of the characters in fairytale world is best described as cute and entertaining.
I’d show this dvd to my 9 year old niece, and I suspect that she’d get a real kick out of the way that the characters interacted with one another in that teeny bopper way. As an adult, it was watchable, and I did laugh at a number of very funny scenes, particularly the opening scene with Monk and Mambo.
I give this dvd 7 ‘dwarves‘ out of 10. It’s definitely worth the watch with the kiddos!

Extreme Movie DVD Review

Are you a hormonal teen? Or a college freshman? Then this movie will most likely be as appealing to you as free booze! Though Reel Ninja is not promoting underage drinking
The movie is composed of a series of clips, slick with inunendo and highschool hijinx, amidst a numerous cast of up and comers. I was disappointed that Michael Cera really only shows up closer to the end, but that was made up by the scenes with Matthew Lillard. Lillard’s scenes had me laughing out loud.
Extreme Movie in my opinion is best watched with a group of buddies on a boring Friday night, the antics of it’s characters might give you some ideas for something to do.
Extreme Movie Unrated came to DVD on February 24th from Genius Products and The Weinstein Company under the edgy and provocative Dimension Extreme label.
The Extreme Movie Unrated DVD debuts with an audio commentary with co-directors Andrew Jacobson and Adam Jay Epstein, a Making of Extreme Movie featurette and will be available for the suggested retail price of $19.97.

I give this movie 5 ’std e-cards’ out of 10.
Feast 3: The Happy Finish - DVD Review

FEAST III: THE HAPPY FINISH takes off immediately after the end of Feast 2:Sloppy seconds. The survivors are saved by Shot Bus Gus, a mysterious prophet who has the uncanny ability to control the beasts.
Leading the survivors through the sewers into the big city, the group learns from the prophet that the beasts originated from a place called “The Hive.” Armed with this new information and a renewed interest in living, the motley crew of strangers decides to fight back and destroy the beasts once and for all.
After the success of Feast 1, I was hoping for something different from Feast 3. Horror and gore are not my particular bag, but when given the chance to review Feast III I thought that I would at the very least give it a shot. As I suspected, within the first 15 minutes of this movie I got to encounter the decapitation and complete digestion of a half naked chick by what I can only describe as the nastiest glob of gross I’ve ever seen on screen. With that being said, if this is the type of movie you’re into, then pick up Feast III by all means, I don’t think that you could possibly be disappointed. If you’re more of a drama/comedy/thriller film fan then I might suggest that Feast III might not be the best selection for a cuddle up on the couch with a bag of popcorn kind of movie.
The movie stars Jenny Wade (No Reservations, Feast), Martin Klebba (Feast II, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End), Clu Gulager (Feast) and Craig Henningsen (“The Slammer”).
The DVD, released on 17th Feb 2009, features “A Look Back At John Gulager“, commentary by director John Gulager and writers Patrick Melon and also the Feast Trailers.
If you liked Feast 2, you will definately like this one as well. You can buy the DVD here!
Zack and Miri Make a Porno Movie Review

Laugh and laugh and laugh some more with this freaking hilarious movie.
Seth Rogan is the new king of comedy, and his counterpart Elizabeth Banks was just as raunchy and outrageous.
“This hilarious and risqué story follows two best friends as they venture into the world of adult film in order to pay off their bills. The pair discovers that their quick porno plot to get out of debt is affecting more than their need to have their heat turned back on. As production of their adult film takes off, so do their feelings for one another in a series of hilarious yet heart-warming turn of events. ” — Weinstein Company
Reel Ninja reviewed this 2 disc special edition dvd, complete with fantastic extras! The special features of these dvds are not to be missed:
* Popcorn Porn: The Making of Zack and Miri
* 43 Deleted Scenes
* Money Shots Webisodes
* ComicCon 2008
* Gang Bang: Outtakes, Ad-libs and Bloopers
* Seth vs. Justin: Battle for Improvisational Supremacy
If you are a Superbad, or Juno fan, this movie will deliver and then some. My only less than thrilled comment would be that the pace of the movie is not consistent. It starts out with BIG LAUGHS and continues on this way for just over half of the movie, then things get a wee bit more “straight” and a little less crazy funny. Although I enjoyed it immensely and have been recommending it to friends, I think I would have loved it to end on the height of hilarity on which it started.
I give this movie 8 ‘bad porn titles‘ out of 10.
Soul Men Movie Review/DVD Release

Are you a Bernie Mac fan? I am an old school fan, from the days of the Original Kings of Comedy, and his television show, The Bernie Mac Show.
Soul Men is packed with classic Mac Man comedy, including his legendary line, “some-mom-ma-bit*h”, a personal favourite. But the funny doesn’t stop with Mac, he is perfectly complimented by Samuel L. Jackson, who does a stand up job as the straight man in this barrel full of laughs film. Soul Men’s supporting cast includes; Isaac Hayes, John Legend, Jennifer Coolidge, Shawn Hayes and Sharon Leal, and is directed by Malcolm D. Lee.
The story line is as follows:
“Upon learning about the death of their former friend and bandleader, two estranged soul music legends reunite for a final memorial performance at New York’s historic Apollo Theatre. They have just five days in a car to bury the hatchet on a 20-year old grudge.”
Picturing Bernie Mac or Samuel L. Jackson as soul singers makes me chuckle, watching them “perform” as soul singers doubles me over with laughter! This movie in my opinion will really appeal to anyone who enjoys Mac’s work, or the stylings of Tyler Perry, or Martin Lawrence.
The DVD is set to hit shelves on February 10th, and comes loaded with tons of extras including;

- Commentary By Director Malcolm Lee
- The Soul Men: Bernie Mac & Samuel L. Jackson
- The Cast Of Soul Men
- Director: Malcolm Lee
- A Tribute To Bernie Mac
- A Tribute To Isaac Hayes
- Boogie Ain’t Nothin’: Behind-The-Scenes
- Bernie Mac At The Apollo
The Soul Men DVD would make for a fantastic Valentine’s Day date night at home on the sofa, snacks and goodies on hand, and flowers for your Mrs.
This is Bernie Mac’s last feature film role, and is not to be missed.
