Indiana Jones (4) and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - Review

Crystal SkullRewiewed by Reel Ninja’s Wife (RNW)

As I am surely one of the few movie goers of my generation (in North America at least) who has not seen the first three installments of the Indiana Jones films, I can only judge this movie on it’s own merits, therefore lacking any comparisons.

Harrison Ford in my opinion, did as he always does, ‘a decent job’. He’s not particularly a favourite of mine, but I suppose he does have a certain Cinderella fit for this role.

Shia LeBeouf on the other hand, was god awful from my perspective. Perhaps a little more time spent screening some ‘greasers’ from the fifties might have lent him a bit more depth to his arsenal for this performance. I just didn’t buy it, plain and simple.

Cate Blanchett - I love this woman! I often describe her as the quintessential movie chameleon. She is just fantastic in her work, and especially creepy in this role. The way that woman’s face speaks without any need for words is delightful to watch.

The storyline is imaginative and interesting enough to keep one entertained over a two hour period, even without the prior series background knowledgebase. To quote The Reel Ninja, “the special effects were f^#&ing amazing!”. I have to concur, the special effects were spectacular minus the scene with the ants, which was disgusting. I cringe even now ;)

I give this movie 7 ‘Mayan temples’ out of 10.

So who is crazier? Denise Richards or Charlie Sheen?

So who is crazier? Denise Richards or Charlie Sheen?Charlie Sheen has claimed that his former wife, Denise Richards, asked him (in an email) for a sperm sample so she can have more of his children.

Denise Richards says that she was seeing Ritchie Sambora at the time of the email and that if she wanted sperm, she would have asked Ritchie. Can you imagine what their children must be going through?

So who do you think is crazier?

Leonardo DiCaprio looks at the life of Ian Fleming

Leonardo DiCaprio looks at the life of Ian Fleming MovieLeonardo DiCaprio may not have a chance to become James Bond but he is certainly looking at masquerading as Ian Fleming in a biopic based on the famous author. Ian Fleming is the creator of the world-wide phenomenon, James Bond and his life will be relived in a movie scripted by Damian Stevenson.

Leonardo DiCaprio’s production company, Appian Way, has agreed to produce the movie and Leo is looking at his schedule to see if he can fit the role into his busy calendar. Appian Way has previously produced movies such as The Assassination of Richard Nixon and Gardener of Eden.

Some people doubt that Leo could pull off the part. What do you think?

Tin Cup (1996)

Tin Cup MovieKevin Costner plays Roy McAvoy in the movie Tin Cup. Roy McAvoy is former PGA golfer who has hit an all time low and now gives golf lessons in the small Texas town of Salome. It is here that he meets Dr. Molly Griswold, played by Rene Russo. He falls in love with Dr. Griswold and finds out that his arch rival, David Simms, is in a relationship with her. He tries to win her over by going back to the professional circuit and winning the U.S. Open.

The movie also stars Don Johnson as David Simms and Cheech Marin as Romeo Posar, Roy’s friend and partner in crime. Perfect cast and a great soundtrack make this movie worthwhile.

This movie earns 6.5 ‘birdies’ out of 10

Fraggle Rock is coming to the big screen

Fraggle Rock Movie is coming to the big screenFraggle Rock, a children’s television series which ran for 5 seasons between January 10, 1983 to March 30, 1987, is coming to the big screen. The Weinstein Company will produce the movie based on Jim Henson’s show and Cory Edwards, who directed Hoodwinked, will write the screenplay and direct the Fraggle Rock movie.

The movie will take the main characters of the show - Gogo, Wembley, Mokey, Boober and Red outside of their cave in Fraggle Rock, where they interact with humans, who think these characters are aliens.

A lot like the Muppets but would be cool to see them in a movie.

Blindness at Cannes

BlindnessOpening at the 61st annual Cannes Film Festival tonight will be a film by Brazilian director Fernando Meirelles. Blindess, is an apocalyptic thriller about a plague of blindness that sweeps the world, save a doctor’s wife in a small town. Doesn’t that sound terribly fascinating?? I am chomping at the bit after reading that little tidbit of information… I can’t wait to get an opportunity to see this little beauty.

Blindness stars, Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo. Meirelles is known for his direction of The Constant Gardener in 2005.

What Will We Do When We’re Left With Lindsay Lohan and Ashton Kutcher?

Empty Theatre Seats I just noticed the birthday box on the left… how can Harvey Keitel be 69 and Bea Arthur be 86?? Doesn’t that somehow seem excessive, or is it just me?

It dawned on me that at some point in the not so distant future, we will be subject to losing some greats due to age. Look out lifetime achievement awards. Judi Dench, Jack Nicholson, Sean Connery, Ian McKellan… these guys aren’t getting any younger are they? I’m not suggesting that they’re all going to just drop dead, but I imagine they aren’t going to go on acting forever.

Gosh, those were just the first few I thought of… the next ten years can expect some big hits I’m thinking.

Without falling too deeply into morbidity, who am I forgetting?

8 Trivial Things About Reel Ninja’s Wife

After reading how interesting Jaden is, I thought it would be fun to show how plain-jane I am :)

* I married the best man I know three times, without any separations, divorces or shotguns thrown into the mix.

* I once passed and made eye contact with Richard Dreyfess in the airport in Toronto. Being a true Maritimer, I simply smiled and kept on my way. I did the same thing to the elderly woman I passed after him.

* I manned the telephones following the 1999 Swiss Air Flight 111 crash for one day. The calls we took were just too devastating from family members desperate for information and I couldn’t get through a call without tearing up. I decided I would be better put to use by organizing the paper trail end of things.

* It is eerie how easily I am able to recall phone numbers and trivial details. This comes in handy in arguements, as my loved ones will testify to with contempt.

* I have watched the movie Top Gun 43 times to date. I blame this on being a child of the eighties and Tom Cruise’s bent nose and overlapping tooth… I love the flaws in a man.

* My friends have criticized me for years for enjoying “B” movies. This turned out to be one of the things my husband and I have in common and attracted him to me. Thank god for fighting conformity!

* I am best friends with that guy from the Subway commercials, Jared. Ok, not really, but I am best friends with his doppleganger… honest!

* I have survived a university campus shooting. The shooter, armed with a shotgun, fired at someone else 6 feet away from me.
