Soul Men Movie Review/DVD Release

February 1, 2009

soul_men_box_artAre you a Bernie Mac fan? I am an old school fan, from the days of the Original Kings of Comedy, and his television show, The Bernie Mac Show.

Soul Men is packed with classic Mac Man comedy, including his legendary line, “some-mom-ma-bit*h”, a personal favourite. But the funny doesn’t stop with Mac, he is perfectly complimented by Samuel L. Jackson, who does a stand up job as the straight man in this barrel full of laughs film. Soul Men’s supporting cast includes; Isaac Hayes, John Legend, Jennifer Coolidge, Shawn Hayes and Sharon Leal, and is directed by Malcolm D. Lee.

The story line is as follows:

Upon learning about the death of their former friend and bandleader, two estranged soul music legends reunite for a final memorial performance at New York’s historic Apollo Theatre.  They have just five days in a car to bury the hatchet on a 20-year old grudge.”

Soul Men

Picturing Bernie Mac or Samuel L. Jackson as soul singers makes me chuckle, watching them “perform” as soul singers doubles me over with laughter! This movie in my opinion will really appeal to anyone who enjoys Mac’s work, or the stylings of Tyler Perry, or Martin Lawrence.

The DVD is set to hit shelves on February 10th, and comes loaded with tons of extras including;

Soul Men

  • Commentary By Director Malcolm Lee
  • The Soul Men: Bernie Mac & Samuel L. Jackson
  • The Cast Of Soul Men
  • Director: Malcolm Lee
  • A Tribute To Bernie Mac
  • A Tribute To Isaac Hayes
  • Boogie Ain’t Nothin’: Behind-The-Scenes
  • Bernie Mac At The Apollo

The Soul Men DVD would make for a fantastic Valentine’s Day date night at home on the sofa, snacks and goodies on hand, and flowers for your Mrs.

This is Bernie Mac’s last feature film role, and is not to be missed.
